I founded and ran a commercial and advertising studio called Davey Jones, where we specialized in Visual Effects and real-time rendering. We worked on content for a variety of industries and eventually were acquired by Atmos (a previous client of ours).

More to come on my years at Davey Jones, but below is a reel that showcases the variety of work we did at the studio. There’s some additional projects featured below as well. On everything featured below I was either Director, Writer, Creative Director, Executive Producer, or multiple (as it goes with small businesses!).

Ark: Survival Evolved

Ark was a consistent client for us for years, we did everything from broadcast commercials, character design, sequels gameplay trailers, creature design and more.

To the right is a short commercial I wrote and directed for another DLC / expansion pack in the game called ‘Aberration’. We shot on a green screen and made all other elements with a Visual Effects team I managed and iterated with.

Spotify

Paul McCartney: Under the Staircase (feature film)

Spotify filmed a live intimate concert of Sir Paul McCartney performing The Beatles catalogue over the decades in the famous Abbey Road Studios. After the session, they wanted to turn the recording into a feature film. We ideated on how best to open the film and I wrote and Directed Animation for “Paul through the Decades” featuring the famous setting, while also highlighting Sir McCartney through the years.

The film was shortlisted for a Grammy Nomination after its release.

This was a broadcast commercial I wrote and directed for a DLC expansion pack called “Ark:Extinction”. We needed to tease and feature key new elements of the game to customers as well as place some easter eggs in there for superfans. I took this entirely from script to screen and it got of 90 million views across social channels, outside of the television broadcast,

Happy Socks

We executed Art Direction and Visual Effects for a series of commercials for Happy Socks, featuring Gaten Matarazzo from Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things”. We worked with Commondeer and JOJX on the production and to ideate what effects would work well for the campaign.

This video to the left is a VFX breakdown showcasing the process we went through to create the final piece above. Lighting and creating and environment that articulated the vast depth of the new levels was critical to the success of this piece. We also had to turn it around in 6 weeks (ideation to ship date) so I managed multiple teams in tandem, including direction the shoot and edit.
